Your Sri Lanka TIN number is important one as it is required in many places. It is compulsory for people who are 18 years or older. If you are going to open a bank account registering or renewing motor vehicles, registering a business, transferring company shares and to obtain your Bank credit card.

How to Check if you have allocated with an Income Tax  Number?

Go to the IRD website, there select Verify Registration
( https://eservices.ird.gov.lk/Registration/VerifyIRDInformation/Index ).
It will take you to other page.  you can enter your NIC  / Passport number and type the shown text.
Then click the “search button” on that page.
If there is a TIN number is allocated for you the page will show that you can collect it from the nearest Inland Revenue Department by providing your NIC.
If there is no number is allocated for you that page will advice you to register for the TIN. All messages will be posted at the bottom pages.

How to Register For TIN Number?

1. Download Application Form, fill it and hand over it to the nearest IRD Office.
2. Go to the IRD website and fill the form online and submit it online.
No fee will be charged for this service.

If you had already had applied for the above number keep waiting as they are posting them by postal service. You have to wait as there are millions of them had to be posted.

Who will need to pay income tax to the Government?

Those who are making over Rs 1,800,000/- per year will need to pay income tax according to their additional income. Those who are earning less than Rs 150,000/- are exempted from paying incoming tax. Cheating of income will be seriously monitored and will will lead to heavy fines for that individual.
