The Sapphire under the light shows perfect rays like from a star. Star Sapphires are graded as superior quality for their star they produce under light.
The stone was mined in the popular mining town Ratnapura in Sri Lanka. It is valued at at least $100m and the current owner expects that it can fetch $175m at any auction. According to the owner it was very confidential as how much he had paid for the 1404.49 carats stone. The current owner had named it The Star of Adam as per the Muslim belief that Adam had arrived in Sri Lanka and lived on the slopes of a mountain which is now known as Adam’s Peak, after he was sent away from the Garden of Eden.
Star of Adam, bought it thinking it is not to be set on jewellery. But will remain as an exhibition piece.
